We want to help you prevent gum disease! One form of gum disease, gingivitis, is the build-up of plaque around the gum line which causes swelling and bleeding. Gingivitis can occur in anyone and requires increased vigilance around a home oral hygiene regimen. It also can be linked to hormonal changes in pregnancy, certain medications, and a compromised immune system brought on by conditions such as HIV or diabetes.

If you notice any signs of gingivitis, we recommend you:

• Increase your flossing;
• Brush gently, holding your brush at a 45-degree angle;
• Use salt water rinses to help prevent infection; and
• Make sure you’re up-to-date on your dental hygiene and exam appointments.
